Lesley Rawlinson

Having worked as a teacher for many years, Lesley has always relished the opportunity to share or create stories with children of all ages. After leaving the profession in 2013, she concentrated on realising her dream of being a writer and in 2017 published her first book, ‘Tales from the Woodpecker Tree.’ Many of these stories reflect her love of the natural world and this is something which continues to feature in her writing.
Since then, she has had another three books published for younger readers, but in 2020 she has achieved her ambition to write and publish a novel for older children. ‘De Morville’s Sword’ is an adventure story with a sprinkling of ghosts and a search for long-lost treasure, set in the beautiful Cumbrian countryside.
Currently, Lesley is working on her next novel, which she hopes to publish later next year, and there may also be another collection of stories from the Wood[pecker Tree before too long!

Christmas Tales from the Woodpecker Tree

Christmas Tales from the Woodpecker Tree is a compilation of seven stories all about the festive season. Some old favourites return from the first collection, ‘Tales from the Woodpecker Tree’, such as Chester the cheeky tiger and Wilberforce the baby woodpecker. The stories are suitable for reading with children aged 4 and above, while older children will enjoy reading it independently.

The events of those turbulent days are about to resurface and touch the lives of a group of young children in a quiet Cumbrian village, giving them a summer they will never forget. A summer where they each have to deal with the trials of growing up, face their fears and learn from the past, ultimately putting the ghosts to rest and preventing Sir Hugh De Morville’s sword from killing once more.

Jojo knew everyone was going to be sad when he was gone so he decided to try to find a way to make them remember him with a smile.  This little book, beautifully illustrated by Alan Jones, tells the story of how he did just that, and hopefully it will help young children to deal with the sadness of losing their own pets. Look up to the stars and smile. They’ll be watching…
